able to a limited few.

any way guarantee the ac-
curacy of any information
appearing in this magazine.

members. Gift subscriptions
will be $6.00.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Dear Subscribers:

We end Volume I with a total membership of 228. I am sure you will find our last issue of Volume I interesting and filled with much useful Brooks information. We all owe a special thanks to Mr. Ted O. Brooks for An Index To Marriage Bonds Filed In The North Carolina Archives, 1741 to 1868 which appears in this issue.

I have enclosed a subscription blank and a self-addressed envelope for renewal of your subscription. I am sorry to increase the cost of the quarterly, but there seems to be no other solution and continue the quality of the quarterly. I hope if we have helped you in Volume I that you will continue to support us by subscribing to Volume II. A subscription to Volume II is $7.50, while you may purchase a gift subscription for $6.00 for a library or individual. A gift subscription will have no membership privilages.

I will need more data for future issues. Please continue sending any information you are able to find through your research. Have any of you considered going to your local courthouse and copying all Brook, Brooke, Brooks and Brookes marriages or any other records? You could begin with the earliest records and continue through any year, hopefully, to at least 1900. How about visiting your local library and copying all Brooks information from the county histories they may have? If you do this, be sure to copy the book title, author, and cite page numbers. If everyone who was able did this, just imagine the vast amount of information which could be created. The time involved would be quite minimal in comparison with the value of the project.

I would like to make a special request of our members in the northeastern states or anyone familiar with this area. If you would please send me the names and addresses of any genealogical quarterlies in the north and northeast with sizeable membership, I would like to place ads in several in order to increase our number of members in this area. Perhaps you know of a genealogical column also, to which I could send a copy of our quarterly for review. Please send the address and name of the person writing the column. Remember, this is your quarterly and i need your help in order to improve it and increase the number of subscribers. With an increased number of subscribers comes the increased possibility of help on your line.

With sincrere thanks to all of you for your support of the quarterly, I shall look forward to Volume II. At least I know it will be warmerwhen I begin Volume II. As I type this the temperature outside is 0 deg F.

Sincerly,

Karen D. Rocher

A READER WRITES

"In the November issue of "Queries" on page 16 I asked for the parents of Bradford BROOKS of Walton County, Georgia."

"On page 24 of the same issue Mrs. William PERRYMAN of Atlanta, Georgia listed the parents of Bradford BROOKS and listed their children.

"How about that for coincidence? Thanks to "Query."

Wife - Ann WEBSTER (*or CARROTHERS), b. 2 Oct 1808 Perranworthal, Cornwall, ENG, christened 21 Oct 1810, d. ? , prob. in Illogan.

Children:

1. James b. 26 Dec 1827.

d. 3 Jul 1893, Ironwood, MI. Occupation - Toolmaker.

*Martha's Death Certificate listed her mother as Ann CARROTHERS.

Ralph Charles KNIGHT was our maternal grandfather. His grandfather, Henry, was born in Ireland and apparently migrated to Padstow where he married Mary POPE 13 Dec 1795. Although William Henry KNIGHT was not born until 1824, our source was confident of the connection. However, since 29 years elapsed we may be missing one generation of KNIGHTS. We have no explanation yet why Martha BROOKS' mother is listed as Ann CARRUTHERS in lieu of WEBSTER on her Death Certificate. This may indicate a missing generation of BROOKS.

William and Martha immigrated from I Illogan to Rockland, MI shortly after their marriage and all of their children were born in MI except Edward (b. 28 May 1858 in Illogan) who apparently was born when his mother, Martha, visited "home" in Cornwall in 1858, which indicates that Martha's family remained in or around Illogan when she and William KNIGHT came to the U.S. We will be very grateful if someone can provide additional information on our BROOKS connection. We have additional KNIGHT info on file if anyone is working BROOKS/KNIGHT lines.

Mr. Maxey BROOKS states that his "Earliest Proven BROOKS Ancestor" is Joseph BROOKS, born 1783 MD, died 1856 CA. He served in the War of 1812 and married Sara PERRY. I cannot establish his parents. Can anyone help?

NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

I would like to thank Mrs. Wayne Hatz for indexing the first three issues. She did

a great job. Since she could not have indexed issue 4, I did so the index could be

included in the last issue of Volume I. I hope the index is a great aid to your

research. Due to a lack of space I was unable to include first names except for BROOKS and various spellings.

If you have not yet sent your Brooks pedigree chart and family group sheets, please do so soon.

If you would like to publish your Brooks Bible Records in the quarterly, please type or print them and send to me.

Please send subscriptions for Volume II at the earliest possible date. This will alleviate so much last minute paper work. I will appreciate any efforts in this direction.

I hope you have enjoyed Volume I as much as I've enjoyed doing it. We will make even greater efforts to improve Volume II and reach out to many more Brooks researchers. If you know of a newspaper genealogical column, please send me any information on it, including the address.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING INFORMATION FOR ALL FUTURE ISSUES WILL BE THE 15th OF THE MONTH PRIOR TO THE MONTH OF ISSUE. Deadline dates are: April 15, July 15, October 15, and January 15.
