THE BROOKS FAMILY QUERY EXCHANGE
The exchange invites contributions of Brook(s) and Brooke(s) related material for publication. All material should be printed or typed. The author's or contributor's name and address should be on at least the first page.
The Brooks Family Historical Society and Library can not in any way guarantee the accuracy of any information appearing in this magazine, however, every possible effort is made to strive for accuracy and authenticity. We can not be responsible for the publishing rights of material furnished by our contributors.
The purpose of the Brooks Family Query Exchange is to assist researchers of the various Brooks families and preserve as an historical record Brooks information that is likely to be lost or available to a limited few. A library of books and exchange publications is maintained for the members use. A sur-name file of surnames other than Brooks being researched by our members is kept.
The Brooks Family Historical Society and Library is a non-profit organization. Dues are $9.00 per volume. Members may purchase gift subscriptions for individuals, libraries or societies, however, these individuals, libraries and societies have no membership rights. A gift subscription is $8.00 per volume. All members may send as many queries as they wish and there is no limit on the number of words per query. Your editor reserves the right to edit queries, with no loss of content and information.
The exchange is available only by volume, which includes four issues,
and will not be sold separately by issue. The exchange is printed quarterly
in May, August, November and February. The deadline for submissions is
the 15th of the month prior to the month of issue.
EDITOR'S COMMENTS
I am particularly pleased with this issue of the BFQE, even though it is still late. I am always glad to receive information on the BROOKS family, but was very happy to receive the information on the Canadian BROOKS families. There is a wealth of information on Shelby Co., KY BROOKS line in this issue. But the PA data is precisely what the BFQE is for - to preserve data that is likely to be lost or available to a limited few. If the information could be recovered at all from public records, the two pages of family records of the PA BROOKS' would require hundreds of hours of research. I personally would like to see more of this type of data - Bible records, cemetery records, short family histories.
The next issue will have some GA and NC data and several members have families which lived in TN for a few years before moving westward. If anyone has data on the TN BROOKS' I would like to print it in the next issue also.

EDITOR'S COMMENT:
The year 1986 did not provide opportunity for me to conduct
very much research on my own family in that I was only able to spend about
three days in KY researching the BROOKS line in Shelby County and the ORR
line in Harrison County. I'M still not positive the Harrison Co. ORR line
is the correct link but have to check the possibility. I also spent two
days in December in Raleigh, NC on the BROOKS line and in about 12 hours
of work found precisely where my great-grandfather and family lived in
Buncombe Co., where they lived again from the mid-1840's to 1854 in Haywood
Co., before moving to Gilmer Co., GA and that they sold their farm to my
great-grandfather's sister and her husband. A deed recorded in 1843 in
Buncombe Co. after my great-great-grandfather Samuel BROOKS died, listed
all the living children including my great-grandfather Samuel BROOKS. An
older John BROOKS settled in the same area of Buncombe Co., on Homing Creek/French
Broad River, southwest of the present location of Asheville, NC about 1810.
I suspect he is my great-great-great-grandfather but could find no proof
other than proximity. Genealogically speaking, 1986 for me was a very good
year.
I would like to leave one thought for our membership based
on my experience. For a couple of years I have known of Samuel BROOKS in
Haywood Go., NC but there was nothing to link them to the Livingston Co.,
KY BROOKS family because the children listed on the 1850 NC census were
different from those on the 1870 KY census. About a year ago one of our
members sent me 1860 census data from Gilmer Co., GA which showed some
of the NC children and some of the KY children. Consequently, data which
may be of little value today may be the valuable piece of information you
need tomorrow.

BROOKS I have heen searching for years for my BROOKS ancestors. Isaac p. BROOKS was my great-grandfather in Thomasville, GA. His first wife had many children but the names were never listed. His second wife, my great-grandrnother had only one son. I have collected three magazines of genealogy material since their beginning and still haven't solved the mystery. I live in hope that someone will send in a query that will help.

BLISS In Vol. VII, No. 1, considerable data on Thomas BROOK and 1st
BROOK wife Hannah HOLLENBACK is given and also his 2nd wife
DILLON Charlotte BLISS. He lived in VA, OH and IL. I am wondering
HOLLENRACK if Clement BROOK m. Ann DILLON in 1795 at Zanesville, OH is
KENT any relation. Thomas' son Thomas returned to Zanesville, OH
from IL and was under the guardianship of Isaac DILLON, Ann
DILLON BROOK'S brother, per Licking Co. probate records. Per
history of DeKalb Co., IL, Thomas and Wm. BROOK came from PA.
Thomas had first school in Somanauk Twp., DeKalb Co. in his
home. Charlotte BLISS was a member of the M. E. C. Church in
Sandwich, IL.

I have been unable to find a record of the marriage of Samuel
